6 important questions to ask your technology partner

Technology is everywhere, across every industry. When it's time to partner with a new service provider, it is easy to get overwhelmed or choose technology tools based on a few features. Some companies are owned by larger companies or groups who prioritise profits above service and integrity. Have you considered privacy and security in your choice of technology partners?

1. How does this new technology fit in with your business?

In the last year, we have all recognised the importance of the human factor in business. We want to make sure that people are always the most important part of your business, so this is reflected in the tools we make here at Bopple. As we do that, we consider how it fits into our business values culture and objectives. We are open about our values.

2. How well does this company know the hospitality industry?

Never assume that your technology partner knows about the hospitality industry. They may be be part of a marketing agency, a point-of-sale company, or a larger technology groups that services a number of industries. Often they understand their own industry very well but may not have experience and insights into the specifics of hospitality. Don’t be afraid to ask the tough questions.

3. Does it benefit your staff and your customers?

Instead of just doing the job, you want any new technology to make things easier for you. For example, easing the pressure on service with Table Ordering doesn’t just help your staff workload, it means they can spend that time providing better service. Quite often, technology solutions actually end up creating more work if they don't fit with the other tools you have set up, or the way you run your business.

4. Does this service protect your customer privacy?

In recent times, the interest in customer data privacy has increased thanks to Apple and other technology companies leading the way with transparent policies and changes. A privacy breach is a big deal, and can break trust forever. Any new software needs to have privacy built-in, and also be compliant with your country's privacy and security regulations. Make sure you know how your customer data is processed, secured and handled.

5. Who owns my customer data?

Have you ever heard the phrase, "if you're not paying for the product, you are the product"? If you aren't in full control of your data, then it may mean that your data is the currency. It's important to be aware of who owns your sales and customer data, both now and in the future, before entering into any agreement. Bopple allows you to view and export your customer data, and we don't use third party integrations.

6. How secure is my data?

It feels like our entire lives are in the cloud these days. Cloud-based systems make our digital lives easy. We don't need to worry about old server stacks failing or computers getting stolen. However, working with a new technology partner means that you’re handing over your trust that your data will be looked after. Have their security systems been tested? How often is the data backed up? What kind of encryption do you use?

Final thoughts

Your data is one of your most valuable assets, so its long-term security is essential. Hopefully, this has given you food for thought and will help you choose your next technology partner. Asking the right questions is the key to building long-term successful partnerships with any of your suppliers and partners in business. If you have any questions for us, we're always happy to hear them.
